No. Don't clip any of the green off. Instead mulch the garlic four to six inches. You can used mulched leaves if you have them. The garlic should be fine. It's a very tough plant.

Most people like to have there garlic about 4" tall before hard winter hits. I wouldnÂt mulch them with anything that might mat. If you do mulch them, I would use something like straw that is nice and airy. Personally I have never mulched it, plus it is pleasing to look outside between the snows and see little green sprouts in the garden.

I'm zone 7b and I do not mulch my garlic...it grows all Winter here and by Spring my elephant garlic is quite tall.
