Walnut trees

Hi. I was searching extensively through archived posts to find an answer to my tomato wilting problem. Found one that mentioned walnut trees, but I never found a conclusion for why they are supposed to be bad neighbors for tomato plants. My garden spot is very near, but not directly under walnut trees. What is the concern here?
