Saving Poppy Seed

What is the best way to save my papaver poppy seeds? As they have gone by, I was thinking about pulling the whole plants up & putting them somewhere to dry possibly the garage. I have plants waiting to put into the spots my sad poppy plants are occupying. I guess my question is, will the pods ripen if I pull the plants up & dry them much like one would dry herbs?

I am collecting seeds from each plant. After getting 1-2 DRY seed pods from each plant, I am pulling it up. This is eventually getting rid of the ratty foliage and giving me enough seed for next year(for lots of people). It is my understanding that the seed pods need to dry on the plant to be viable, but I am not 100% sure about that, but I do know this method has worked for me for many years.
