I have a patio apartment and room for only a couple of tomato plants. This year, about 2 weeks after planting, one of my plants wilted, turned brown, then eventually rotted about a foot up from the bottom of the stem. The other plant survived and continues to produce tomatoes.

I would like to grow tomatoes again next year. Is there anything I can use to treat the soil which would kill any possible fungus or virus?
