pleached beech

I just saw a beech hedge at a hospital I was visiting . Does any one have any experience growing this type of hedge and know of any place where I could buy beech whips? Iwould like to plant one about 75 feet long.

Have you tried Musser Forests? www.musserforests.com

Hornbeam is also nice, though the brown leaves are perhaps not as persistent. Also Linden (Tilia) often used for this.

There is a Beech hedge at the Southampton hospital -- perhaps that is the one you meant?

I liked the comment about 75 ft beech whips! Ha Ha !! Anyway miSago , I have a hard time restraining things I grow even pruning them as often as I should. I understand the Bonsai idea but just wouldn't bother to take the time to distort a natural growing thing! I think for me it rings of binding little girl's feet. You know those ancient traditions. It served a purpose the but not now. I can't even accept it as an art form. If you want a tiny tree then carve one.
