What kind of Banana is that?

The banana is the japanese fiber banana, Musa basjoo. It has proven hardy through 3 winters (the photo shows it in its second growing season).

It looks great. I have a bunch of bananas but not Musa Basjoo yet. Love the leaves. I wish I could have no leaf burn!

bas joo and zebrinia in CT now ,, The bas joos have been in the ground for 4 years now ,, the red ones are removed in the fall.

Johnieb; Loved the photo! What is the plant with the dark edges on the leaves? Is it a type of canna? It looks very tall.

I must have followed a link in the past and seen the rest of your garden, it's very inspiring. Here's my try at a tropical garden. I was really hoping the banana would get tall enough to walk under, but as it is it smacks me in the face with a cold (usually wet) leaf every time I walk by.

Finally! Thanks Johnnie. It looks great, but are you running out of room? I don't see any spots of open ground left...

Is that a chinese parasol tree? I never heard of one until a few days ago (this forum) and now I need one. I think I'm a little too cold here though, it's the zone denial thing again. Are most of your plants perennial or do you lug alot of things in for the winter?
