Must be so Brian. I've noticed the same in years past when I grew them. Maybe a mulch on top of the soil will help reduce watering?

Yes, they need a lot of water. Is yours a bushy type, with three or four plants crammed into a pot? That is the way many nurseries sell them, and they are so potbound that they need constant watering. I find they do much better with one plant per pot. In the fall, I take cuttings from my favorites and overwinter them, just one per pot and use them the next summer.

I suppose you could put it in a larger pot with some water absorbing crystals added to the soil. But watch for root rot if you get day after day of rain!

I think its one bush,but I haven't really looked. I was thinking of using those crystals,but I also am using seaweed meal,I heard its supposed to keep moisture in the soil. It might not be working for the hibisus,although I wasn't able to get the stuff deep into the soil. I did plunge the pot of on of them into to the ground,I thought that would reduce evaporation as well(although that was not my main reason for putting the pot in the ground). It still gets dry. Of course it never raining here is so not helping(ok that was a whine).
