I have started to notice some color change in the last few days around Knoxville. We might see some but not as spectacular as the norm.

We say a little bit of color on the Cumberland Plateau yesterday, but it was very little. Here in Middle TN, I am seeing mostly brown leaves. Weird year for gardeners!!!

I am noticing that some trees... not oaks or maples... but some of those trees with smaller leaves seem to be changing color (those with leaves the shape of dogwoods).

I don't care so much about the fall color as I am about the health of the trees. Is it going to take longer for them to fall off?

I believe at this time last year, I was raking like crazy. This year, I haven't yet touched the rake.

Sugar maples seem to be the trees most itching to turn, along with some red maples and dogwoods here in K-town. It is, however, sometimes hard to distinguish who is turning and who is dying!

Northeast of Knoxville there are some creeks with trees along them and those trees have lovely colors even though the creeks appear to be dry. Where there aren't creeks, things aren't looking much different from a month ago, only less crisp.

I'm now seeing maples with some blazing pinkish reds.

In my yard, the trees are just green... mainly oaks.

I saw some pretty sumacs on the way to the Mid TN swap this weekend. And as I was driving through town this afternoon I saw one little clump of brightly-colored trees, but I passed them too quickly to see what they were.
