Red Cordyline

I have two red cordyline plants that are new this year. They are in pots. One of them seems to be dying. Most of the lower leaves are brown. The other (located beside it) is fine. They get half day of sun and are watered regularly and fed once a month. Any ideas?

I have one cordyline ('Red Sensation', I think) in a subtropical bed and it is in good shape, although not growing much.

Sometimes a plant will decline for no apparent reason, though you might want to check for soil moisture conditions at root level ('regular watering" means different things depending on how free-draining your soil is).
