Hello,

I'm not sure where you are located but that plant would be tough to grow indoors. They need lots of water but only if it is hot. If the temperatures are cooler too much water will make them rot. You may also experience some major bug problems. I've also heard the sap can stain your walls so be carefull.

I grow many types of EE's and usually try to store the bulbs dormant over the winter with limited successs. These bulbs are very prone to rot. I believe I've seen other members here (JurassicDarryl and others) post pictures of their overwintering methods.

I'm no expert but I believe it involves:
-digging the plant
-trimming the plant matter 2-3 inches from the bulb
-cleaning all the dirt off the bulb
-allow the bulb to air dry (possibly upside down)
-storage methods vary. Cool, dark, and dry.

I live on Vancouver Island so keeping these things dry and cool is a challenge. There is just so much moisture in the air over the winter. Sadly many of my EE's didn't make it last year. I believe that Black Magic EE's are difficult to store as the bulbs aren't that large. I may be off on that though.

Hope some of this helps. Maybe some of the other experts can chime in. I wouldn't mind some advice myself. :)

I have had great success in overwintering inside in a bucket of water! Yes that;s right!

I cut them back, dig them up and shake off most of the dirt and plop it in a small bucket. They seem to thrive like this.

This works for Colocasia fontanessi too.

Joe this method is intriguing to me. Are you submerging them in the water, or is there just a few inches of water at the bottom of the bucket? Are you doing one plant per bucket or is several okay? I've still got to get mine dug up, meant to do it over the next couple of days,
