I am YIPPEEEEEEing for you cats! Can you believe there is still not the first dot on the Hummingbird migration map yet! Even Lanny can't explain it. It is about a week later than previous years so far. I am thinking that b/c so many people who have always reported along the coast may no lnger be there b/c of Katrina that there are not enough people to post their first sitings in those areas.

I am geting very impatient already even though I know we still have a ways to go before they get here. But at least i will have my Red buckeyes ready when they do arrive.

Hi Penny!

I know your a bird lover like most gardener's are; they sure help us so much with those little critters at times.

But I thought I'd mention a few weeks ago, actually 1/24, our backyard was so muddy with the mild weather (where has it gone?) I took the dog for a walk on the Erie Canal, and I was fortunate to be at the right spot at the right time. I came across a flock of Bohemian Waxwings foraging on berries etc.

I did have binoculars and the coloration of these beautiful birds close-up was something to behold, as the sun was at my back and blue sky for a change, made it pretty picturesque. It was heavily brushed and I couldn't tell you how many as they moved so quickly? Definitely more than 25 and not more than 50 to 75.

They are seen around here in CNY, but rarely.

I checked out the Journey North site too! I didn't realize the Hummer's were either in a late mode or just not observed? I hope it's just JNO.

I am thinking that it is indeed more JNO than being in late mode especially since so many of the areas that they come to shore are virtually non existant right now. Luckily there will be plenty of natural food soures for them already so they don't really need to rely on feeders. I have friends in Biloxi that do have hummers but have no computers to report any sitings.
