When I bring plants in, I usually repot them in new sterile potting mix and rinse the roots and foliage off at that time, really well. I also inspect the plant thoroughly. Other plants I take cuttings and just bring those inside to root over the winter. So far, this has worked well for me.

Sometimes I repot and sometimes I don't. If I don't I leave the plants out in the mud room until the temps go below 40 and then I bring them inside. I overwinter lots of plants.

I also keep the plants in a cool part of the house and mist them and water less. I have never had a problem with spider mites but I didn have white fly on one plant late last winter that I kept in a south facing window because the air was too warm and dry in there for it. This year they were all kept near my back door in the kitchen with no direct sun and in a more humid environment and they were all fine.

Hmmmm. I think I may give it a try this year. I'll be sure to repot, rinse roots and leaves and keep in a cool place. I'm thinking maybe the garage, in front of a south-west window. I know it's still pretty cold but the sun comes in and the room above is heated.

If it stays above freezing that should work fine. My garage is detached so it gets pretty cold out there so i haven'tried overwintering things in the garage.
