White Syringa Bush, White Lilacs, white Viburnam, white Oriental Lilies, August Lily (plantaginia hosta), honeysuckle, are the plants that immediately come to mind.

How about Phlox David, Lily of the Valley, various white iris, Cimicifuga, Daffodils, Oriental Lilies, Hostas Guacamole, plantaginea, Hyacinths, Asclepias Incarnata, Viola Odorata, Hemerocallis Vanilla Fluff. I'm not up on vines, but there's some perennials to get you started.

How about Hemerocallis 'So Lovely,' alyssum 'Carpet of Snow,' nicotiana sylvestris, white hyacinths for spring, hosta 'Venus' or 'Aphrodite,' viola 'White Czar,' clethra alnifolia 'Sixteen Candles' (that's a small shrub, a real delight). . . . That's all I can think of right off hand. Well, Hydrangea quercifolia 'Pee Wee,' which is not fragrant or a perennial, but it's a white-flowered dwarf oakleaf shrub, with great fall foliage. And white mock orange 'Virginal.' Can you tell I like shrubs with white flowers? If you like container plants, you could grow a gardenia or a dwarf citrus tree, or a true jasmine, all for the fragrance.

How about plain old wild clematis? Clem virginiacus (sp?) is loaded with little white blossoms and intensely fragrant with a delightful vanilla scent.

Thanks for all the responses! I'm not able to get online as frequently as I'd like, as I'm back to work after 6 months of medical leave... Yes, clematis is such a favorite; some "seed donors" also gave me white nigella, white hollyhocks, and foxglove. I will be looking for some datura, and am coveting a beautiful white David Austin rose... Phlox David is also on my list. Thanks for the welcome, Polly!
