I am with you, Starmoon! About half of my crocuses were chewed. However, they were chewed just as they were about to bloom and scattered around. Your culprit was a clean eater and did not leave much behind. I blame my damage on squirrels (MANY in our backyard) who did not have their harvest of acorns last fall. Yours may have been caused by another pest... I have covered the few I have left with some grid.

Woodchucks can and will eat all sorts of things..could even be deer.

Rabbits will eat them too.

We actually watched the squirrels eat our crocus one year. It was so sad!

But it has not happened since.

No advice, just condolences. I'd be so upset and heartbroken- we wait all year for a glimpse of life just to see it destroyed...

The crime scene photos are shocking. Now, if you catch the perp, you must post his or her photo with the numbers across the bottom. Or perhaps a WANTED poster?

Don't know how hungry those pesky varmints are, but to prevent our local noshers from being tempted I sprinkle garlic powder or grains on everything I don't want eaten. I look for it at the dollar store and buy several bottles at a time. Early in the season I did have a snow drop chewed off, but that's when I started regular applications, and nothing has been assaulted since.

If squirrels did it they must be really hungry. We have at least half a dozen of the critters chasing around and the croci are intact.
