I have it in a bucket in my pond and it stays put and behaves well there. I understand reducing soil acidity by adding agricultural lime works to rid horsetail but have not tried it. Good luck. Kareen

LOL! My soil is not acid; it has lots of lime. I think Karen has a different type of horsetail in her pot. There are many types. Field horsetail Equisetum arvense is an evil weed that will grow in any soil, poor, rich, baking sun, moist shade. I remember reading an article about in in Horticulture and the writer recommended moving as a solution, lol.
I'm sorry you have it Carol. I've been pulling it up for a long time. I didn't know it before, but it puts up spore producing stems that look different than the regular little tree looking ones and they aren't as numerous. Google for some pics if you don't know what they look like. At least if you can control those better, you can slow the spread some.
I wish I had a better answer for you, but being that it comes up with all the plants in flower beds, it can't be sprayed.

Hi remy - Yah, silly me, I thought they were skinny mushrooms; never connected the two until I did a search. Yuk. I'll pull what I can, then next year go after the spores. At least the weeds aren't ugly.......yet!!!

I've only seen them in wet marshy places, they don't seem to like it dry. At least that's what I hope, since they are by my pond but nowhere else . . .

Gotta - It is quite damp where they are the most prolific. We have springs abounding.....Haven't seen them at all in the drier areas :-)

I have them too....never realized what the spores looked like, so thanks for bringing that up. Will definately go after them next year.
