Netting is the recommendation: or you can plant a mulberry tree on your property , given the choice the birds will go to the mulberry.

I can vouch for birds adoring mulberry trees. My neighbor when I was growing up had one. When the berries were on the tree, the tree was filled with all kinds of birds, whose chirping and singing woke me at the crack of dawn. The driveway and cars were soon thereafter dotted with purple, um, bird crap. The question is whether it will draw the birds away from the plum tree, or just draw more birds to the yard? After all, there were birds in that tree the likes of which I'd never seen before. These were not just the birds that hung around the yard, but practically every exotic species in the area as well.

thanks for the warning. I like the idea of the pretty singing birds, not so much the "crap" they bring. LOL Or the fruit they take, I also have a nice strawberry bed, maybe I should really think about this. the berries are low enough to the ground to cover. The plums are another story, I think I will prune in the fall, alittle scared of to much pruning. I can grow stuff, just don't like it when I have to "cut it off".

I have several fruit trees,two cherries and a peach. Tried netting,it didn't stop the birds and squirrels. They get ALL my fruit.

LOL I checked the Plums today, still loaded and the tins are still hanging, I purchased some twrilly things from the dollar store and hung them too. so far, so good. The plums are getting much bigger! about the size of my thumb now. I am so excited. The cats are probably helping. LOL
