I plant a single hill of pumpkins each year, for my kids. I prefer the 'Hybrid Bush Spirit' variety, because it doesn't take over the whole yard, and sets nice-sized round fruits (10-12lbs or so). Some years, depending on the weather, I've had to hand-pollinate the female flowers. My pumkin plants are on the small side so far this year, and haven't flowered yet, due to rain rain rain early on, but they'll probably catch up by August if the rotten woodchucks leave them alone. (Woodchucks eat pumpkin leaves, along with my sunflowers and rudbeckia - nasty creatures. . . .)
