Are you keeping the banisters the warm wood tone? I actually think white would really make everything look fresh and clean. Otherwise, a cool light blue gray. And I'd do the kitchen a darker gray.

i was considering painting the banister

I think a light sage green would be very pretty:

From here, I really like the brightness of the white risers. I'd paint the entire place white.

Oh j222b - so good to see you boldly say white! I always think it and then get afraid (of whom? its an opinion!) but I too would say white!

Green Its cool in summer and warming in winter. Benjamin More Paladian Bule HC-144. I know I said green but in the right light this is a greenish , rescoot green HC-140 or HC141. Green works with wood.

    Hi riverbloom, Marie here.
Your hallway paint should be the same tone as the rooms it is going to and from.
I would NOT take paint advice online - well worth the professional consultation fee to have someone out and get you the right paint the first time.

    good Luck...

    thanks

riverbloom, if you cannot afford a professional consultation, it's ok to take paint advice online as long as you remember the way your monitor shows color may not be the same way mine does. You are not committed to accepting our advice, we're just making suggestions based on what we see. If you see a suggestion you like head on out to the paint store, and check it in person.

We make suggestions for design dilemmas. I wouldn't call it "advice" b/c "advice" is usually given by a professional.
Let's say you decide on the "Sagebrook Green" (SG) (you mentioned you like). Buy a small quantity of the SG. Paint a foam board (large swatch) with SG. While you are at it buy several colors of paint and paint the foam boards. Tape the painted foam board(s) in various places in the room(s). Live with them for a few days / week. Check paint colors in various rooms and under natural & artificial lighting. Hopefully you will find a color(s) that is perfect for your rooms. Yes, a color expert might be able to save you time and effort and might be able to advise you on a room color you will love. I am not putting down experts in the field at all. There are several designers from Canada on Houzz. You could call one near you and see what the consult fee is. No harm in asking. Marie Hebson on Houzz is a Canadian designer and Maria Killan on Houzz is a Canadian designer/color expert.

I am a graphic designer so I m aware of pigment vs light for colors. Nothing replaces large samples which I do on cardboard.
I'm also an artist so I mix my own
    and then get it matched.
