Nah.....but it would be better if you chopped those things up with some other veggies.

(That's pretty much a good thing to do with everything.)

Forget about the whole acidic thing. I am convinced that there is no validity to it. I have fed worms whole tomatoes and whole oranges. The worms were fine. Bell peppers will not be a problem.

I agree with sbryce. Tomatoes are loaded with acidity, and I give them my pulp when I make my tomato sauces in the fall. They love the stuff!

I've been putting small sections of pineapple rinds to see how they take to those. These are also successful in my bin.

This is surprising to hear, bell peppers, tomatoes, , oranges, pineapple-- all things I have avoided giving my worms. These items have seemed to acidic , maybe not I will have to consider this for future use.

hummersteve, I have to disagree with the "acidic is good, won't cause any probs, don't diversify it" strategy that goes against CAWP (Commonly Accepted Worming Principles).

They WILL eat it because they'll eat anything organic. What they will thrive on better is a little bit of a lot of different things that will dilute the acidicity.

Here's what I do with orange peels, apple cores, pineapple, etc: I chop it up, put it in a container, add veggies scraps as it begins to decompose, stir it all up into a mixture, and feed it when a little mold begins forming.

Dilution's the solution for me.

Plus, when I keep those diced up orange peels in that little Styrofoam cup behind my desk I enjoy a really nice citrus smell.

When someone asks if it is OK to feed X, I generally assume that X will not be the only food in the bin. If someone were to feed exclusively tomatoes, oranges and pineapple, One may expect problems. If any of these foods are part of the OM being fed to the worms, I would not expect problems. Things in the bin tend to balance out.
