Tina..I have put coffee grounds down to get rid of the ants. It does not kill them, they just go away.

I did not know that about coffee grounds! Before I started the composting and being more conscious of chemicals and such, we used to use the ant poison since my 2 year old son is sensitive to the fire ants' bites. Now I am working hard at being chemical-free (!) and looking for alternative solutions.

Would you know if there are any good internet sites that help with natural/chemical free alternatives that we can use for everyday household uses?

There are formulas for organic approaches to fire ant control. The ones using molasses and citrus oils work very, very well. Fire ants hate molasses.
