We have had a successfull outdoor worm compost bin for about a year and a half. The only problem has been other insects breeding and making maggots but these go away eventually.

I understand that cat or dog feces is a no-no for vermiculture bins. On occasion my partner has observed a cat (we have two and there are a few more next door) using the bin as a litter box. She is concerned that this means we can not ever use the worm castings in the garden.

I have taken out two wheel barrow loads of castings and dumped them where they will freeze this winter. It probably will not get below Zero F. where we live.

Can anyone comment on this?
