There is no such thing in my opinion as the right one. If you got them from nature and they are doing a good job they are the 'right ones'. If I had a place on my property that I could find worms like you did I would certainly start a bin with them. People worry entirely to much about the exact species. I have read many articles that state you can't tell by looking anyway, you would need a specialist to tell you exactly what species they are.

"wild ones" work for me, I just gathered what moved into my compost bins and setup a dedicated worm bin - been years and they multiply well ,,, if not Eisena Foetida, they're likelya close relative

Cool thanks. They are definately doing well and producing the good stuff. It was really quite cold out(i'm at 7700 feet) and I was amazed these guys were doing okay. I guess the straw was insulating them well. I harvested about 50 of them and I'd say they've at least tripled in population by now. Will likely split them into two groups soon.
