Hi anisten; I have bins that are seperate breeds and one or two that are mixed. Normally in nature there are several species of worms mixed in organic litter in the wild. When in captivity breeders try to some extent to seperate them. If you mix them one species will normally out number the other. It is due to the breeding abilities of one species over the other such as cocoon casting frequency and number of worms hatched per cocoon. theym will live in harmony as long as food and environmental conditions are favorable. In the case of Eisenia fetidia and Eisenia hortense(Dendrobena veneta) they are closely related and will live togather with no problems except as stated above.

i was cleaning up my back porch today and when i picked up a tarp off the ground i found a big fat night crawler, i put him in my worm bin!

i hope hes happy, it seems more hospitable than outside.

Hey Rom that Nightcrawler likes cooler temps than Red worms 55 or lower to freezing.

Nightcrawlers need to go deep. Put him back outside.

My Father in Law actually put some of the Dew Worms in a styrofoam box and believe it or not they are still alive and actually bred(which is not suppose to happen!) he does keep them in the cold room though and it is only about 10" deep. Wonders never cease.

Thank you for the advise Ikittle, I haven't decided what to do yet but I have some time to decide as they cannot be shipped right now anyways due to the cold weather.
