Actually I think the mold comes before the worms can have at it. The worms feed off the mold and fungus.
How many worms did you start with? How big is your bin and what is your feedstock?

Oh...and yes they all do-exist very well.

takes a while for the worms you start with to find the food, takes a while for them to reproduce to a level they can deal w/ the quantity you add, takes varying amounts of bacterial/fungal decomposition to make the additions 'available' to the worms - remember they don't have teeth, they "slurp" the softened surface, and the decomposers [bacteria and fungi] are indeed an important part of the food source for them, they're "omnivores" not vegans :)

you can figure one pound of worms will take care of about a half pound of food waste per day

I had an interesting one 'bloom' one time in one of my bins. Most have structures so small they're hard to observe, this one was pretty big and with the yellow color was very easy to see. Interesting stuff.

I cannot really tell but that almost looks like a huge amount of pot worms.
