I have beds that contained horse manure and pine shavings for over a year and the shavings have not rotted at all! I would say about 75% sawdust and 25% manure was the original concentration. Some of the beds are now just sawdust and shavings and I feed them other feeds to keep them going. The chips are just the bedding. They dont seem to mind, but I would rather have a bedding that they can eat like cardboard and paper and leaves, etc. as for the chicken manure just feed it like reg food and put it in a corner for them to eat as they like.

I think you'll have a tough time with pine shavings. The resin in the pine makes them a hard sell to the bacteria that do most of the work in a worm bin. But you might be able to use them as bedding, of a sort. Just mix the shavings and manure in with other stuff - paper, soil, food scraps, etc, and let it go like you would a regular worm bin. Then when the rest of it is chewed up, screen out the shavings and use them as mulch somewhere that won't mind a little acidity in the soil.
