No advice, but just a warning that ivy can do a lot of damage to bricks or siding and can provide entry for pests. You may want to think about this a little more.

I agree & think ajuga in it's many colors would work well. You could use creeping wintergreen &/or creeping Phlox, vinca with or instead of ajuga. Spot Hosta, contoneaster,heuchera in for color & to break up the carpet cover with a little style.
