I have been religiously composting the old fashioned way for a few years; a colleague gave me about `1/2 cup red wigglers recently. I made a bin out of two plastic bins, 2x3 ft each, made into a clamshell (hinged in back w/ zip ties, latched on the front). I drilled 1/2" holes in the bottom and sides, laid a few inches of moist shredded newspaper for bedding and added the worms. I've been adding kitchen scraps for the past 2 weeks.

-is there a minimum #/amount of worms to get the process started, or will the gradually reproduce to meet the food supply? I just ordered one lb by mail; how does this sound for the size of my bin?

-I'm in seattle (currently 40s-50s), keeping the bin outside, out of the sun. Is there a critical low temp? High temp, once summer comes? I have a shady area back by my main compost piles, I may move it back there and make a bigger "frame" (open bottom) if this bin "takes off"

-is it true that too much citrus (acidity) is dangerous, or can I add orange peels to my heart's content?
