They're probably mites (see link below).

They are not mites. They do not show any movement. Any other ideas?

It might just be a type of mold. There are all sorts of molds in a worm bin:)

Jill, consider looking at the dots using a hand lens or, if available, a dissecting scope (some schools have these available to students). Some mite species are incredibly slow moving (fermentation mites, which are white-colored, seem barely move at all), frequently leading people to doubt that they are mites, though it is most likely that they are.

Do you have many springtails in your bin? Sprintails shed their skins as they grow, leaving them laying all over the place, looking like little immobile insects.

If you get a chance, take a close look and let us know what you see.

The white dots just appeared overnight after adding foodstock. They are not in clusters and do not move. I notice more of them on the upper sides than down in the compost. I am not noticing mold or insects in my bin. Today, four days after they appeared, they feel like a hard, dry grain of sand.
