I have tried breaking up mouldy bread, soaking it and feeding it to the worms. It did not heat up as I had expected it to but also, even after a few weeks, did not seem to attract the worms. I will try putting it through the blender next to see if that will help.

I feed my worms left over bread. Usually it is in slices and I wet it and squeeze it before adding it to the bin. It doesn't get eaten as quickly as pumpkin, but a lot quicker than cabbage.

just crumble it up and mix it in, no water necessary or desireable - mold is one of the microbial foods worms take care of

Yea, go ahead and throw it in. Anytime I have left over bread slices, I soak them in water and lay them across the top of the bin and then cover with wet burlap. As marshall2000 stated, it won't go as quickly as melon or pumpkin, but goes fairly quickly after it gets good and moldy.

I tried putting the bread through the blender and sprinkled the fine crumbs onto a sheet of cardboard. It continued to develop into a lovely mouldy mess (the colour of a nice blue cheese) but the worms have avoided it like the plague. It was white bread and maybe my worms are health nuts? Now all lef tover bread (and there is a lot of it) gets put through the blender and broadcast into the flower beds for the birds et al (including my very stupid Rotweiler) to eat.

I'd be careful not to put too much bread or processed grain products in the bin since they usually have a lot of salt in them and salt isn't good for your plants.
