worm compost box

hi

i made a worm compost box (40 litres). i followed instructions for aeration(several holes 1'' at the bottom and a fine mesh lining the floor) and bedding (wet newspapers). i added the worms and all seems well but i see weird behaviour:

some worms stay in the bedding and have started eating the food i left in there, but i also find lots of worms piled up under the mesh. any idea why that would be?
