What is the latin name for your plant?

I believe it's Gelsemium sempervirens.

You have what is commonly called Carolina jessamine. They are native to the southeast US and are normally tolerant of water. They love full sun but will tolerate some shade.

It's probably just trying to get to used to it's new site. Give it some time and some mulch. These plants are pretty tough.

BTW, if you need to cut some dead matter off, cut it just past a leaf junction and it will sometimes send out a Y shape of new growth. Get as close as possible to the leaf junction while keeping the leaves.

thanks for your help, jcalhoun! I went out to take a look at it this morning and there are some brown (dead) parts. Should I just cut that off? Will the rest of it rebound? At what point will I know that it's a lost cause and I should dig it up and replant a new one? thanks again for your help! I took a picture of it, but forgot this website won't let me upload.

Anyway, remove the dead stuff with some sharp clippers. As I said before, if you do it at a leaf junction it will sometime make two runners.

Also, don't fertilize it until it's become well established.
