We got them yesterday afternoon. When we put them in the home we prepared for them, they were very active, mooving fast to burry themselves from the light. Really "dynamic" and fast moving.

This morning I checked them and I'm worried. I moved a bit the surface of the bedding and 2 of them, rather small ones, are dead-like. They are alive though, but they move only if I push them a bit with my finger. And even like that, they move real slow. They didn't try to burry themselves to escape the light like they did very quickly yesterday.

I pushed some of the bedding to see if the others are ok. They are moving a bit more but nothing compared to yesterday.

The box is a plastic one. It didn't have any chemicals previously in it. Before using it for the worms, I washed it with dishwashing liquid and rinsed real well.

I made 1/2 inch holes for aeration on the sides and the botton of the box. I used window screen to "close" the holes. I lined the bottom of the box first with a very old thin cotton pillow case (so old you almos can see through it) and then window screen. We added coarsely shredded brown leaves mixed with paper (brown and white, no ink). We then sprinkled the bedding with finished compost. We sprayed well with watter the whole thing so it is damp.

We emptied the content of the worm bag on the bedding. The worms I got from a sprouting farm. They sow seeds and sprout them in clear plastic boxes and sell them to health food stores. You know, the sprouts for sandwiches and so on, alfa alfa, sunflower, mustard... The guy showed me an active bin there. They use the soil medium used for sprouting the seeds as bedding for their worms. They aerate it with big seed shells such as sunflower seeds. They feed the worms seedlings from their sprouting operation. I suppose the seedlings that are not good enough or nice looking enough to be sold.

So we don't disturb them from their eating habits, we gave them a handfull of chopped very young mustard leaves to feed them, planning to add variety progressively. I checked the spot I burried the mustard in and some of the worms did actually move over there to eat. I have to tell when we emptied the worms in their new home, they were all gathered in ball shape and we didn't disturb them much. We burried the mustard leaves at the opposite side of the bin to make them separate and move over there to eat.

I don't know, they seemed very healthy yesterday! This morning they look like sick, barely moving.

What is happening? I hope I'm not loosing a pound of worms right after buying them!
