The Ultimate Home Composting System

About two months ago I purchased a Worm Factory Composting System to make garden compost. This is one of the best purchases I have ever made! Within about 30 days my Worm Factory was actively converting food waste from the kitchen into rich garden compost and worm tea. The Red Wigglers I used to start the system have more than doubled in number and as the worms continue to increase in population I will be adding them to my vegetable garden and lawn. I recommend this product to anyone who likes to garden. My husband even uses some of the worms for fishing, and he seldom has to buy bait now!

Here is the link where you can buy the Worm Factory. "The Worm Factory Composting System"

I bought one of these last summer from Songbird Garden and have had it working now for almost a year. I purchased the 3-tray system, but bought two additional trays later and made it a 5-tray. If you are buying one, get the 5-tray system! I started with about a pound of Red Wigglers. Since then I have removed 30-40 lbs of the worms and put them in our garden and lawn for aeration. The compost we generate from the system has made our garden plants and bushes thrive. You wouldn't believe how well our tomatoes and rose bushes do! The system also makes worm tea which makes an excellent fertilizer for our house plants. I'm thinking about buying another Worm Factory and trying Euro Nightcrawlers in it. Clay

Today, a post identical to the one at the start of this thread was made by Rebag in the Soil, Compost and Mulch forum.

Another identical post by Rebag was made in the Organic Gardening forum.

Rebag, you may just be a very enthusiastic new poster (and vermicomposter) and trying to help other gardeners on GardenWeb with your information.

However, you may also be someone trying to increase sales of a commercial product. This happens here, a lot.

    All the best,
    -Patrick

p.s. I've grown first-rate vermicompost in an abandoned bathtub. It didn't smell. At all.

Worms will grow almost anywhere conditions are right for them; they don't even need containers. Though as Annpat points out in her reply on your thread in the Soil forum, an $8.00 container works just fine for vermicomposting. And if managed well, it smells just fine. :)

interesting catch magic, guess there's shills everywhere

yes, any old container will work fine for vermicomposting, and if there's any stink you're just trying to hard to micro-manage a natural process that works fine without our help .... it's actually the manufactured setups that folks seem to have the most trouble with

Wow! I just returned to this forum and can't belive some of the posts I am reading. I was simply sharing my experience about a composting system that I purchased recently called the Worm Factory. I posted a link to the site where I bought it only because I though it might be useful information to other readers. Apparently, I was wrong! The item that I purchased is not a rip-off as some here claim it is. I used a cheap homemade composting bin once as someone suggested, but it did not work for me. Matter of fact it turned out to be a nightmare! Perhaps, I was doing something wrong at the time, I just don't know (definately a novice). So I purchased one of these Worm Factories and have never regreted it. Yes, it did cost me a few bucks (approx. $90), but feel it was worth it. It is well made, easy to set up and should last for years. An instruction manual came with it that was easy to follow. I'm not criticizing anyone who builds their own composting system. All the power to them, if it works! Guess I should have never even brought the subject up! Reba

    Thanks Bill and Anita. :)

If you check "The Ultimate Home Composting System" thread current in Soil, Compost and Mulch, there's some interesting comments about Rebag/Lorig08/Cfancher's recent posts.

1 lb of worms increasing to 30-40 lbs in a year?? I've never heard of worms multiplying THAT fast!

Hi Madmagic! Always great to "meet" another local worm hobbiest! I live in Kitchener!

Hmmm I'm not taking sides but have a thought. If Rebag is selling these things don't you think he would know EF's don't belong in lawns?

Unless this is part of hig gimic to make himself look like a newby.

Hey Sherry, howdy from Terrawnna. :)

Flanna, my guess is Rebag isn't posting here out of interest in raising worms. Seems to be a more commercial focus in "their" posts. Check the thread in the Soil, Compost and Mulch forum for more details.

    All the best,
    -Patrick
