I found a muscadine vine when clearing some privot, it was too long to just string up, so I choped it 3' from the ground. Are these new buds forming?

I'm in the same situation as you, except I already did the cut. In your case why not cut off the dead parts? How long of living vine would you be left with? I plan just to stake mine up next to the new cable I now have to install since it decided to live.

Thanks for reply.Yep,pretty much the same situation.My vine died back to about two feet of trunk left living.I was thinking about cutting it just above a good bud,and try to get it to go to my top wire and then go from there.Does that sound about right?

It sounds right to me, but I'm experiementing myself. As I see it you have 2 options,

1) Leave it and let nature take it's course. I would imagine that the last living bud will start growing and you can train that to grow along your existing wire.

2) Cut it right past the last living bud. Which should yield the same results as option 1 if you truly are only cutting off dead vine.

If you wait a few days I'll post pics of how mine is coming along. There are actualy 2 of them withing 5 feet of each other, I cut both of them, they both have buds emerging like the one pictured above.
