Ivy - Grow 'down' a wall?

Has anyone has any success (or failure) in training ivy (I'm thinking Engelmann) to grow 'down' a wall?

My driveway cuts down into our yard (live on hill, garage under house) and is bordered by concrete retaining walls. Perennial beds line the edge/top of the concrete walls.

Problem concrete walls -- very ugly. Since the asphalt drieway abuts the retaining walls, there is no way for me to plant anything to grow "up" the walls, but I could plant something at the top to grow down them and cover the unsightliness.

I've tried various trailing plants in the past and they aren't as effective (coverage-wise) as I think ivy would be. However, will ivy grow 'down?'

Thanks much!
