eeek!! chopped spirea!

Had the gardeners out to move some rather large nandina, loropetalum, and a grass I tried to dig out, but was too much for me, and do garden cleanup - I got to them in time and identified what was a perennial versus a weed (hard to tell in Texas unless you know where you planted :)) but they had chopped my dead-looking GoldFlame spirea to an inch above the ground already. And I was just thinking of buying more, these are in front of a crape myrtle, and I was going to do a circle round the tree. Anyone know if these will come back? Or do I go ahead and plan on buying enough for the whole circle?
