Mary, when I set up my first two bins, I used colored paper... including glossy. The only adverse affects that I noticed were ribbons of plastic (had been run through a paper shredder) with print on them! All paper had been eaten off of them. But, the plastic was still intact and the print was still legible! I know there are some who will disagree with me, but I don't think you will have much trouble using the newspaper with color ink.

I put everything in my bin, and have never cared about colored paper. There have been times that I've pulled out strips that haven't broken down, but that seems to be some sort of glossy insert. It may have broken down after time, but it seemed relatively unchanged.

Anyway, throw it in there.

colored inks on non-shiny paper are usually soy-based and fine. i have used the shiny even...they just take longer to digest.

but the best paper...hands down is the shredded paper from an office shredder. 2 reasons...one is that it forms a nice top layer that is easy to fold up and down that also really degrades quickly. the other reason is that newspaper should be recycled for environmental reasons, so i look for other papers now for my worm bin.
