If the ground is well drained the rain shouldn't bother the plant. But you might check afterwards that the soil has not been washed off the roots.

Thanks for the feedback. The excessive rain didn't hurt it at all. In fact, it has since grown about an inch. Grew a Major Wheeler a few years ago at another location, and I was impressed then how fast it took off.
