Hello everybody--happy spring!

I've got a young Mexican olive tree (about 5 ft. tall) that is rather spindly--I'm wondering if I can prune it to make it branch out more. Does anyone have experience with this great ornamental tree? I'm hoping that if I cut back a couple of the longer branches, they will spit in two and create more foliage and branches.
