Hmmm, I just occurred to me, could I use shredded cereal boxes or would the colored printing on the boxes not be a good thing? - Robin in Charlotte

Most of the inks these days is soybased...Worms will consume it w/o any danger...Call the 800 # on the box and see what they use on their boxes...I would imagine, it's soybased....Dwight

I pretty much only use non-corregated cereal & food boxes (toilet paper & paper towel cores too!). The only thing I watch out for is the metalized / foiled boxes. I recycle the corregated cardboard, newspapers, and office paper at our local recycling facility. No one seems to want to recycle the paperboard, so in the bin it goes. I have a 12 cu ft flow through bin now, but I used it in the small rubbermaid bins too. The paperboard has more "structure" to it so it helps create little air spaces in the bin. I always had problems with newsprint matting together.

The corugated cardboard is glued with an animal protein so it is a much more nutritious cardboard. I personally like the corrugated ones as they provide a lot of air holes.
I use every and any type of paper product but stay away from metallics.

Cornstarch is most commonly used.

I am using a shredder made by mtd. a little 6.5 hp model that has a three inch capacity on the chipper side, i just have to feed it slow.I make about 10 cubic feet of bedding in 30 min.
