My worms seem sluggish.

My worms don't seem as perky as when I started them 3 weeks ago. I don't have worms trying to escape, but I did find one dead one in the bottom. Some of the worms are much lighter in color. I started with 1 lb. 3 weeks ago and there are new juveniles.

I have removed the uneaten food and added bedding (shredded brown grocery bags). I really don't think I had over fed them. They've had some melon pieces, cucumber, lettuce, coffee grounds, 2 apple cores and one strawberry.

I did get the white mites, but they seem to have greatly reduced in number. I can't see any anymore.

My house does get to about 80 degrees during the day and there is some condensation on the lid when I open it.

Anyone think I'm headed for trouble?

Not really. What sort of system is it?

If you are concerned about heat, leave the lid off and cover with something damp to help cool it down.

Brown grocery bags are "OK" but I find that they don't soak up moisture fast. They are not supposed to, remembering what they were for. Just imagine the bags falling apart and spilling your groceries all over the parking lot. No fun at all.
So if you have shredded newspaper and/or (corrugated) cardboard, mix it with your grocery bags.

The worms are doing much better today. Lightening fast when I open the lid. By the way, it's a small RM system.

Yes, I will put some more corregated box in there, they do love those tunnels!! I added some crushed egg shell and the appear to be very happy with that addition and not another piece of cantelope.
