Am I asking for too much?

I am thinking of building an arbor about 8 ft tall, 7 ft wide and 10 feet long. It would receive full sun. I am hoping to find a vine that could be planted at each of the corner posts and would eventually cover the arbor creating a shady area below. I would prefer something that wouldn't flower, or unscented flowers and leafs on old wood. I am very wary of invasive vines. Just to make it more difficult - my back yard is tropicalesque - bananas, canna, ee... So a tropical feel is wanted as this would be an entryway to the yard.

I am in zone 6b, southern Missouri. Any ideas? Steve

Steve, a Clematis sounds like what you need - it does have flowers, but no fragrance nor bugs. It grows fast and only blooms for a couple of weeks, then it would be all foliage.

Would I want something from Group 1 - no pruning? It appears that the montana group would meet my needs, except the height looks like it might fall a little short. Any Ideas as to which one? Any color would work except blues (need to keep that hot color scheme). Any comments on Mrs. N. Thompson?

what about crimson glory vine? Vitis coignetiae. large leaves, no flowers. beautiful fall color. or perhaps Aristolochia durior, dutchmans pipe. very tropical looking with large leaves.
