Garden worm

I can't get any so call "red worm/red wriggler worm" to start my vermicompost, I am wondering, can garden worm work the same way? maybe a bit slower or they eat difference stuff?

What I do is, I went to near by hill, and dig out from the place that LOOK LIKE composting leafs/rotten, I found worms there. Cos i thought if the worms like rotten leafs, it may work.

Does it really work?
