So, how many lbs of worms do you think you have Eric?

Otis - After dumping and sorting, about 4# of worms went into the new bin. I was pretty careless and estimate that 2# got skimmed with the compost so I would estimate that I was holding 6# of EF's in the 55 gal barrel. Today when I went to take a couple of scoops for my potted plants, there were a lot of small worms in the compost.

I maintained my bin for the last year with the least amount of effort. I tossed produce scraps, paper products, and cardboard in at guessed amounts. If I had an abundance of peelings, I would burrito wrap them in a newspaper and freeze it for later. Twice per month I would level the pile out and tear the moist paper into pieces. I had taken small amounts of castings out for seedlings and potted plants. I felt like I could have fed it for another year before filling it up.

I think that the system is awesome and I can't wait to start it again. The only thing I would do differently is to use 1 layer of cardboard or less newspaper to lay across the grate. Last time I used 6 layers of newspaper and it was hard to tear through.
