Mine never did real well in Dallas! Did you get any to grow for you?

My first seeds were not viable, but I am trying again this year. It may take a few seasons, but I am certain they will acclimate to our heat over time. My friend who lives in Seattle had such pretty ones this past season, and if they can grow there with so little sunshine, I feel they should do well for us.

I'm trying to grow them for the first time this year up here in Sherman -- I winter sowed them and they're just starting to sprout. I'm going to plant them in partial shade and put a lot of compost into the new bed I've dug for them -- we'll see how they do, I'd love to have them grow well and have a beautiful memorial to Yvonne in my yard.

Thanks, Patrick, I do so hope these will get a good start in Texas .... they are such beautiful plants, and such a hummingbird magnet.

I got some seeds in a round robin exchange and have winter sown them. A few are sprouting. Where would be the best place to put them and what do I need to do to take care of them? I'm more south than Sherman, but I imagine our weather is similar (west fort worth on I-20).

Alley, it is probably going to be a trial and error for us here in the heat as these were grown in the cooler northeast. I plan on putting some of mine in full sun, others in filtered sun and see which ones do the better. If anyone else has grown them in Texas heat, please chime in and tell us how they faired.

How'd these salvias do here in Texas? Anyone have sucess?
