the next plant looks like something out of a horror movie, but colorful.

First one (both pix) is tufted vetch - an introduced weed in the US. Second one is a Geranium species. Could be native, could be introduced. Neither is a garden plant in the conventional sense. Did you mean dead end street? I was a bit alarmed by the 'dead in street' headline ;-).

Yeah, that got me too :0) btw, neither of these plants is likely to turn in to a tree that grows 25 feet tall. Just saying.......
