Did you only see one worm in the 1/2 gallon of purchased worms or in the bed afterwards. I only ask cause if it was in the original 1/2 gallon you should have definitly seen more.

Its only been a couple of weeks and since you did see lots of cocoons I would give it some more time. I have a rubbermaid bin also and they can hide pretty good.

thanks,yes I think I did see a few more in the original box, but not more than a few. The cocoons take several weeks to hatch I guess. the first few times I put food in, I could go back the next day and see worms around the food
Looking in the bin a few days ago, I only saw one worm. Yesterday I didn't see any worms...

It doesn't smell bad so I guess it's not toxic. I may just get some more from Seattle Tilth...

I believe its normal to lose a few when you first get them. If you only saw a few in the first 1/2 lb then you may have lost most of them. No need to worry though. The ones that hatch into your bin from those cocoons will be better adapted and have a better survival rate. Itll just take patience.

If I were you I would go with another supplier if you decide to purchase more worms. When I got mine I got a pound. Half of that would be WAY more than a few worms.

That's reassurring. My first supplier was a woman who has some at her house. It was just a half gallon milk carton with dirt and some worms and cocoons. Seattle tilth sells a half pound for $12.50 and they may be more professional... I think I'll go there and get some more, because I want to get going.

Too many scraps and my outdoor compost is supposed to sit for a few months so I can harvest it...

They sell the Worms eat my garbage book also....
