The berries are edible and I would assume that it should do ok in your zone, in sandy soil, as long as it wasn't in full sun. Mine is in constant light shade and in its second year it is growing well. It has shown no signs of being invasive, in fact I would prefer it was a little more agressive where I have it planted.

One more point, unless you get the self-fertile "eastern prince" variety, you will need a male and a female for fruit production.

Thank you, Chills. I did not realize it would likely need a male. And now that I went back to the website to see what variety it is, it is no longer listed... Now, I'm considering a clematis. As big as that area is, 2 or 3 vines might be needed, maybe a Chilean Jasmine, too. There is no hurry as I will wait til fall to plant because it is so hot in the summer. Brandy
