Hi all. Just had to share, because my family has a very ho-hum interest in my worms. The kids like to look at them, but it doesn't hold their attention very long. DH is mildly impressed, but not enthusiastic.

I usually feed quickly and put the lid back on, not wanting to see the rotting goodies. But after hanging out here for a couple of weeks, I got excited about wanting to harvest. The bin is about a year old, and was neglected now and then. I started with a small clump of worms donated by a friend (about 20?). Wow, what a surprise! It was so much fun. I didn't really plan ahead, and I'm too impatient to wait for them to migrate to a new bin or through a screen. I just started scooping and picking and sorting. I now have several hundred (best guess), which isn't a lot unless you compare to what I started with. No idea exactly how many. I counted 100 into a little pot, and I plan to share those. I collected a gallon or so of VC, but also put a lot back in the bin with new bedding.

How do I know if/when I have too many worms for the bin? It's not very big (10 gallons?). I did notice a lot of cocoons and babies. I have a feeling I'm going to end up with several bins before long. I keep mine in the house because it is so hot in Texas.

Thanks everyone, for giving me the motivation to sit on the floor and dig through the worm poo. And I won't be neglecting the bin now that I know what it can do.
