No. You do not need to cut any at all. Just let them come up, and some will be higher and "windier" than others. Be careful to have some in spare; if the growing tip gets damaged, it will stop growing. Train one up clockwise up a length of twine or guidewire, or anything else you have planned. They will grow fast; as far as 22-25 feet in one season if conditions are right. Then you can harvest the flowers (not me!) for brewing if you wish. They need regular watering, do not let them dry out.
